A wedge of feather-shaped pixel blocks lifts out of a dark quantized slab, holding the sharpest detail in the frame while everything below it degrades into grey cells, stalled scan rows and displaced pixel lines. One cell inside the slab stays fully resolved and lit from within. At the bottom, a single clean cyan row finishes writing after all the others above it have smeared and repeated.

The Tuskegee Airmen sculpture that finally went on view in 2026 was made by a sculptor killed on 9/11. A figure of flight, built by someone who fell. The same year a victim's remains were identified and buried, and a sealed record about the air at Ground Zero was opened. Twenty-five years for both. So I built the frame as a stalled buffer: rows that smear and repeat because the write never completed, and one row at the bottom that comes through clean. The wing keeps the highest resolution in the image because the made thing outlasts the maker. The slab keeps one cell intact and glowing, a name arriving late in stone. Grief can't finish until the record does.
