Valence Hall

Most of what we see today is filtered by machines. I make that apparent in my art, finding ways to retain meaning and beauty as the visual world falls prey to digitization, data compression, and a proliferation of pixels. In an age where machines can create photorealism, I revisit the days of primitive machine art to help find meaning.

• Every image reaching a human eye has already passed through machines that decided what to keep and what to throw away.
• Compression is a form of editing. The artifacts it leaves behind are the visible record of that decision.
• Constraint sharpens intent.
